2 Corinthians 9:6-8
Introduction
We live in a culture obsessed with material prosperity, and many believers have adopted the mindset that financial success is the ultimate goal. However, this perspective attempts to undermine God’s sovereignty, making Him like a genie in a bottle who exists to fulfill our selfish desires. The truth is, God is in control, not at our control.
Throughout Scripture we see that some men of God were wealthy while others were not. Serving God does not guarantee material wealth for all believers. Instead of chasing after riches, we are called to pursue righteousness and align with God’s dream, not America’s dream. Prosperity itself isn’t bad, but it should never become our master.
A key principle in God’s kingdom is the principle of sowing and reaping. Those who sow much will reap much, while those who sow little will reap little. When we hold onto our resources selfishly, we miss the opportunity to multiply them. A farmer who eats all his seed may be full today but will starve in a year. Similarly, hoarding resources for personal gain is like storing wealth in an account that acquires no interest.
Instead, we are called to be cheerful givers, sowing with faith and without compulsion, knowing that the more we give because of grace, the more grace we receive. We must be motivated by the Word, not the world, recognizing that true overflow comes from God. When we give with the right heart posture, we align with His purpose, allowing Him to bless us in ways far beyond material gain.
