Introduction

Interruptions are frustrating. They break our normal rhythm and force us to slow down when we want to speed up. In the Kingdom of God, interruptions are often invitations to listen more intently. In 1 Chronicles 13, David wanted to bring the Ark of the Covenant back to its rightful place in Israel. However, he rushed the plan rather than using the prescribed way that God outlined. Fast forward to 1 Chronicles 15, and David has learned from his mistakes, and the Ark of the Covenant is successfully carried into Jerusalem. So, what happens between chapter 13 and 15?

God gives David an unconventional instruction. Before David could carry the presence of God, He had to sit in the posture of obedience. Many of us are in between our last mistake and our next move. Before we get to the celebration, God often gives us interruption that contains instructions. The interruption is intentional. Sometimes God interrupts your plans in order to keep your heart receptive. How often do we repeat methods in our life because of our comfort? The interruption is a divine checkpoint that makes sure that we are aligned with God’s timing, power, and purpose.

God’s plan often sounds different. God doesn’t just tell David what to do, but He also tells him when to do it. If we’re not tuned into the frequency of heaven, we’ll miss when God is on the move. God’s plan often sounds different because He wants us to wait for His voice and not move based on our patterns.

A GPS only gives you the next turn after you take the current. You’ll never move waiting for the whole map. When you follow the last instruction, the next step is released. So, if you find yourself waiting for your next step – inquire again, wait for the wind, and obey without hesitation

Getting Started

  1. How do you usually respond to interrupted plans?
  2. Would you rather have a GPS that tells you one turn at a time or one that informs you of the whole route ahead? Why?

Let’s Get Personal

  1. What’s one area of your life where you tend to “rush the process” instead of waiting for God’s timing?
  2. What’s one step of obedience you know God has already given you, but you haven’t acted on yet?
  3. Why do you think God uses interruptions to get our attention instead of just giving us clear, straightforward instructions?

Take the Next Step

  1. Where in your life do you sense God might be asking you to slow down and listen before moving forward?
  2. Pray and ask God to help you see interruptions as invitations rather than inconveniences.
  3. Want to dig deeper? Take a look at the following passages: 1 Chronicles 14:13-16; Proverbs 19:21; Isaiah 55:8-9; Joshua 9; Psalm 25:4-5.
