Responsible for teaching courses to cultivate students’ passion for the performing arts and develop their skills in acting, directing, and production. Ability to design and implement engaging curriculum, lead rehearsals and performances. Instrumental to nurture creativity, self-expression, and confidence in students as they explore the world of theater.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive theater arts curriculum that aligns with educational standards and fosters artistic growth.
  • Create lesson plans, assignments, and projects that challenge students to explore various aspects of theater, including acting techniques, script analysis, stagecraft, and production design.
  • Incorporate a diverse range of theatrical genres, styles, and playwrights into the curriculum to broaden students’ understanding and appreciation of theater.
  • Provide engaging and dynamic instruction in acting, stage movement, voice, and other aspects of theater performance.
  • Direct and oversee rehearsals for school productions, guiding students through the rehearsal process from auditions to the performance.
  • Collaborate with students to develop characters, interpret scripts, and stage scenes effectively.
  • Coordinate all aspects of theatrical productions, including set design, costume design, lighting, sound, and props.
  • Manage production budgets, procure necessary materials and resources, and ensure
    adherence to production timelines.
  • Oversee technical rehearsals and coordinate with production crews to ensure smooth execution of performances.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to help them develop their skills and achieve artistic growth.
  • Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans and assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments, such as performances, projects, and written assignments.
  • Encourage self-reflection and peer evaluation to foster a culture of continuous improvement and develop incentivesfor the class.
  • Establish partnerships with local theaters, arts organizations, and community members to provide students with opportunities for experimental learning and real-world connections.
  • Engage with parents, alumni, and the broader community to promote and showcase student work through performances, exhibitions, and events.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts, Drama Education, or a related field, from a four-year college or university. State teacher certification (Standard or Alternative) or ASCI (Association of Christian Schools International) certification is preferred. The successful candidate must complete the Christian philosophy of education in-service.

Licences and Certifications

Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Class B rating and a passenger endorsement required. Must pass a physical examination at least every two (2) years and have no points on driving record as verified by the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS).
